Zoe's perculiar journey through time

Created for the Burgtheater Vienna in 2021/22, then adapted for a tour of UK and Norway in 2023, including London's Southbank Centre. Nominated for the Offies 2024.

A time-travelling adventure for ages six and over, featuring magical puppetry and exploring themes of friendship and the environment, in particular ocean plastic pollution. Catapulted one hundred years into the future, Zoe finds herself on a mysterious island made entirely of plastic waste.

Much of the music and sound design was created using plastic waste - such as percussion made from beach detritus, xylophones made from pressured pet bottles ('Flairdrum') - and underwater hydrophone recordings. The voices of the puppets were created using disposable plastic cups and and a discarded plastic bathtub.

It’s beautifully complemented by Rajiv Pattani’s precise lighting design, which works with Frank Moon’s excellent original soundtrack to evoke multiple interlinked atmospheres; from moments with a sense of spirituality to silly comedy scenes at the other extreme.” Everything theatre
