Callas, la divina

The 90 minute recorded score is a collage of Callas recordings and original music performed by Frank and the Orchestra of the Ballet de Santiago.

A full length ballet in two acts, created in 2023 for Teatro Municipal de Santiago, Chile, who staged the world premiere. The final performance of the season fell on the 100th anniversary of Maria Callas’s birth.

A tribute through dance to an artist who forever marked opera and the artistic world in general, the ballet explores the duality of Callas the diva and Callas the woman. The non linear narrative weaves scenes of operatic drama and beauty, jet set parties in the Greek islands, tense paparazzi fuelled media attention and her complex relationship with Aristotle Onassis.

“ Frank Moon's mastery was evident…he made accurate and timely decisions, and in some magical way he also encouraged us to evoke the sounds of Greek folklore… the creator of the musical dimension was able to account for various aspects and evolutions, with a holistic and global view, but maintaining the specificity of what concerns María's life path. It was a tremendous contribution and at times the great strength of what we witnessed.” CulturizArte

“The sound, a creation of Frank Moon, is fundamental in this ballet to achieve its symbolic dimensions.” Santi Teatro y Danza
